Small Editorial Work

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

I’ve picked out some recent small editorial jobs before archiving them to share which I’ll quickly run through.

First up an overload of illo’s for John Niven’s column in Q UK, these three are June, July and August I believe (issue #278/279/280). 200mm x 150mm, AD : Salman Naqvi of Q.

Below - John shopping in a discount clothing store picking up an array of cheap clothes surrounded by various other shoppers as described by John within the editorial. Linework can be found here.

Below - John attends Bruce Springsteens London gig only to be overwhelmed by the crowd, poor view, and sound quality. John then describes his “dream” setup at gigs consisting of an elevated platform, drink in hand and nothing but perfect sound and vision. Linework here.

Below - John visits the closed down offices above Ronnie Scott’s jazz club where Heavenly Records previously resided in Soho, London. Linework here.

Below also a quick illo I did for OUT magazine about the African American author who recently passed away, E. Lynn Harris. The portrait is made up with a hint of books/writing and some of his book titles to create a montage-like effect.

This was the first idea that came to my head and I thought it would work well with his vibrant personality. Final illo was created with one quick screen which I then sealed and painted over some detailing followed by some handwritten inserts. Below is my initial ideas -

And the final (4.5 x 6 inches) AD: Jason Seldon -

And last but not least, a double page 2/3 up illo for Traithletes World which I did a couple of months back but forgot to blog!

This is for an editorial about two NZ athletes who started an Iron man podcast a few years ago. The illustration needed to portray the two long distance training within a NZ backdrop listening to their ipods. Due to the gutter of the pages as seen below, I split them to either page and interlinked them with ipod-like wiring around the landscape through the Iron man logo to portray the distance and broadcast motif. AD: Marco Crisari
